Being the second of the five parts of the Faith of Muslims, it is important to adhere to a ritual of cleanliness before commencing the prayers. This includes ensuring where you pray are clean; you have a bath of some type to ensure the body is clean. The bath can be of water or sand if the person is ill, or unable to access water.

The clothing in which to pray has to be clean, modest and fairly loose. Of this, the hadith of al-Nawawi is the best way to show exactly how Muslims have adapted to suit the faith. Western clothing on women particularly is not exactly appropriate.

With the cleansing of the body, care is paid to the hands, face, ears, hair, mouth, nose and feet three times each. There is a set order to wash these parts of the body which should be followed, and the hair does not really need the three as it is a simple brushing back from the forehead with a wet hand. Those men who sport beards and moustaches must also take care to wash them as they wash the face in the ritual manner.

This ritual is called the Wudhu and is performed as God instructed in the Qur’an or Holy Book. Adhered to, it sets the tone of cleanliness and purity for the prayers that follow. The idea is very simple, namely that God wishes to purify you, so that He may complete His favour on you, in order that you be grateful.

Like anything important, trying to say Salat while you are not in a conscious state or are not conscious of what you are saying, then you may as well not appear, although that will cause you untold problems too. As there are many different prayers that may be offered at times, it is very important that you understand exactly what is being said.

As prayers can be for obligatory purposes, be a missed prayer, be a solitary prayer or one that is shared with the whole, or a prayer by a traveller, there is a large list that might be suitable for you, and talking about it before prayers or at the beginning can be beneficial. As all Prayers should be treated with the same humility and belief, then it is very wise to treat them all impartially and genuinely, and as though it is going to be your last.

The Salat is made up of several prayers, recited in a continuous cycle and with the appropriate body language. Some Salats may differ from each other in small ways, depending on the mixing of the different Sunni schools of thought which define certain things differently to their fellows. This is not usually a problem between the states of Islamic Law, such as Sunni and Shi’ism, although this may not always be the case.

Some of the differences may relate to which structure of Prayers is used. In some parts, the Prayers are chosen by the people themselves and are not from the hadiths or the Qur’an.  Some other parts that differ are which ones of the verses of the Qur”an will be recited.

Salat, or daily prayer, is the second Pillar of the Islamic religious structure. Without daily prayers in a Muslim’s life, then he or she has no connection with Allah, and therefore is not a true Muslim. If you do not consider your prayers wisely or say them without belief, then they are not considered prayers at all.

Along with the prayers, there are body movements that must be followed strictly. The different postures express the feelings at the time for Allah, be they adoration, submission or modesty. Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu-Alayhi-Wasalam describes these movements as “Praying to Allah as if you see Him; because though you don’t see Him, He surely sees you.”

The prayer is an extremely important part of the day, for prayer to the Muslim will purify him or her, and keep wrongful thoughts and deeds away from him or her. It also purifies a person and takes him or her nearer to Allah. The Holy Book or Qur’an makes a point of encouraging Muslims to make a tradition of prayer to help them against wronging anyone and anything. For performing salat, Muslims have to follow a proper dress code which includes covering from head to toe for woman and men as well. Before performing salat ablution is a must.

There are various parts that are compulsory to perform and speak during Salat. The prayers themselves can be divided in several ways, but each has its appropriate section which should not be ignored or omitted, or the whole Salat is wasted and is not acceptable to Allah.  So this is the basic premise of Salat or the Daily Prayers which is indispensable to the Muslim religion.
