This mainly refers to the destitute and poor, but can refer to anyone in other terms than simple monetary terms. Thinking of others in a compassionate way is another that will partially fulfil anyone’s duty to God.

Islam works on there being no poverty or want in a person’s life, according to God, and Zakat is a way to do this, and give worship to God as well. This then satisfies the main objective of both persons involved. That the want has been alleviated to which he or she thanks god, and the giver receives the spiritual pleasure of doing this for God.
