Former Memphis City Councilman Brent Taylor, who owns and operates funeral homes in the Mid-South area, is providing a specially made University of Memphis casket to the family of Coach Larry Finch.  Coach Finch died Saturday, April 2, 2011.

“My funeral homes have been offering college themed caskets for several years.  It only seemed fitting to assist the Finch family during this difficult time with a casket which represents so much of who Larry Finch is,” stated Brent Taylor.

Taylor said since Coach Finch had such a profound impact on the community he felt his donation was not only to the Finch family, but to the community as a whole.  “In business, it’s usually about making a profit, but there are times when it should be about making a difference.   This is one of those times,” remarked Taylor.

Taylor, who was elected to the Memphis City Council at the age of 27 and now owns five funeral homes, says it’s people like Finch who made it their life’s work to make Memphis a better place.  “Coach Finch did not start out seeking a path to fame.  Memphis called, and he answered.  It’s obvious he loved Memphis,” said Taylor.

N. J. Ford and Sons Funeral Home has charge of arrangements for Coach Finch.

The Taylor family owns and operates five funeral homes in Tennessee and Mississippi.
